TAXILA: Punjab Minister for Minerals Chaudhry Sher Ali on Saturday said educational institutions would be issued arms licences to enhance their security under the prevailing situation.
He said this while visiting different schools in Hassanabdal to review the security arrangements. The minister is also the head of the monitoring committee of the Attock district.
District Coordination Officer Rawalpindi Sajid Zafar Dall also visited Taxila and Wah Cantonment to review the security arrangements of the educational institutions.
Assistant Commissioner Taxila Shahid Imran and Subdivisional Police Officer Saleem Khattak also accompanied the DCO.
The DCO said 30 monitoring teams had been constituted to visit 500 educational institutions in the Rawalpindi district. He asked the school administrations to use only one gate for entry and exit and ensure complete verification of security guards, canteen staffers and drivers. He said security drills should also be conducted at the institutes every month and a focal person should be appointed to review the security measures.
He also called for installing CCTV cameras in educational institutes besides constructing eight-foot-high boundary walls.
