KARACHI: Lahore Gymkhana’s Adil Jehangir shot a brilliant 67, five under par, in the second round to emerge sole leader on the penultimate day of the 54-hole Bank Al Habib’s fourth Rashid D Habib memorial national golf tournament at Karachi Golf Club on Saturday.

Adil, who carded two under 70 to finish a stroke behind the leading trio in the first round on Friday, surged to the top to lead by a stroke over seasoned Matloob Ahmed. Adil’s two day aggregate is seven under 137.

Matloob, who played one over 73 the other day, fired best round of 65 that earned him a big leap on the leader board.

Sajjad Khan and Waheed Baloch are tied in third place with three under 141, a stroke ahead of leading golfer Shabbir Iqbal and overnight leader Ashar Masih.

After a sluggish first round of one over 73, Shabbir avoided errors striking three under 69 in the second round. Ashar’s two day’s scores were 69 and 73.

Meanwhile, Asghar Ali of Gymkhana won the senior pros title while M. Ilyas, also of Gymkhana, finished runners-up. Ghani Khan of the KGC had to be content with third slot.

The event concludes on Sunday.
