DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least two police officials were injured when their mobile van came under attack at Gira Mastan area of Kulachi tehsil here on Thursday.

According to police, the mobile van was on a routine patrol at Giran Mastan area when five armed persons ambushed it and fired rocket and gunshots, leaving assistant sub-inspector Abdul Sattar and constable Javed wounded.

Mohammad Adnan, SHO Daraban police station, along with his team reached the scene soon after the attack and cordoned off the area. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment. The ambush came a day after a grenade-cum-gun attack that killed ASI Qaiser Jehan of counter-terrorism department along with his two brothers and a worker.

The district police have tightened security and conducted several successful operations in the restive parts of Kulachi Tehsil.

Meanwhile, ASI Qaiser Jahan, his two brothers and their friend were laid to rest at Kutchery graveyard. The funeral prayer was offered at the police lines, which was attended by people from different walks of life besides officials of the police department.

The case of the incident has been registered against unknown accused. District Police Officers Sadiq Hussain Baloch said that such cowardly attack could not undermine the operations against terrorists who were taking the lives of innocent people. He said the police was fully alive to their obligations and such heinous acts of terrorism could not shake their resolve to root out terrorism and extremism from the district.
