HEC affairs

Published January 4, 2015

I WOULD like to draw the attention of opposition leaders in the National Assembly and the Senate and educated parliamentarians towards the pathetic condition of the Higher Education Commission. The worst example of its mismanagement is its inability to release funds for indigenous scholarship programme since July 2013.

It is a pity that the HEC has not released approved funds to the eligible scholars of MPhil and PhD since July 2013. The scholars have paid fee for three semesters while the fourth semester is fast approaching. HEC sources claim that the indigenous scholarship programme is being closed on the order of the prime minister. Moreover, it is claimed that Minister for Planning Commission Ahsan Iqbal is responsible for the delay in releasing the funds.

It is alleged that the PML-N leadership is reluctant to release funds for indigenous scholarships because it was initiated by Pervez Musharraf and the PML-Q. Opposition leaders in parliament should raise this issue on the floor of the houses.
