ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Saturday that a suggestion to impose ‘unscheduled national security emergency’ for two years has been floated, DawnNews reported.

In a press conference held on Saturday evening, the interior minister said the government needs two years to achieve its goals.

He stressed that military courts will be used for dealing with terrorists and no ordinary citizen or politician will be victimised.

“Going to a military court does not mean that a man will be hanged. The accused will be allowed to plead their cases accordingly,” he said.

“In a place where a war is going on, such steps are taken. The military courts function under a set of rules and regulations too. If someone is innocent, he will get justice in military courts too,” he said, adding that in US, military tribunals were formed after approval from the Supreme Court.

Talking about the decision regarding military courts, he said it will be detailed while Pakistan’s judicial decision will continue to work as usual. He added that work on the National Action Plan was being done.

“Each province will have an apex committee under the chief minister. The committees will also include members of police and Rangers. The provinces will have to play a central role in conducting the national plan,” he explained.

Warding off the criticism on intelligence agencies, he said, “The talks about the failure of intelligence agencies are wrong. Intelligence about Wagah and Peshawar attacks was provided in advance.”

He further added that armed forces were provided to the provinces whenever a request was placed.
