MULTAN: Khanewal police have decided to arrange security orientation for school teachers and students to avert any untoward incident.

It was stated by District Police Officer Rana Muhammad Ayaz Saleem while talking to Dawn here on Monday.

The DPO said in the first phase teachers of 57 sensitive schools would be given orientation while officials of police, Rescue 1122 and civil defence departments would conduct the activity.

“A syllabus has been designed with the help of the officials of Rescue 1122, police and civil defence to train teachers and students of schools to avert any untoward incident,” he said.

The DPO said: “There are 1,852 schools in the district out of which 600 are private; however the schools have been categorised keeping in view their sensitivity.

“We have divided schools into three categories A-1, A and B. In A-1 category, the schools where the children of armed and police forces are getting education have been included, in A category schools located near any sensitive or important official building and in B, all the remaining institutes are included,” he said.

He said in the first phase teachers would be trained while in second phase students would also be provided with training, including first aid and firefighting.

He said school heads had been directed to arrange armed security guards.

He said schools in A-1 category had been directed to install CCTV cameras.

The DPO said: “Police are not going to provide security but they are giving technical assistance to schools to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the provincial home department.”

He said the provincial government had released funds for the hiring of security guards for the state-run educational institutions.
