GUJRANWALA: A man and his wife were suffocated due to gas leakage in People’s Colony here on Saturday.

Reports said Attique, 34, and his wife Naushin, 32, went to bed without switching off the gas heater in their room. Sometime in the night, the heater went off due to low gas pressure and the couple suffocated because of gas leakage.

SIX KILLED: Six people, including two women, were killed while three others sustained injuries in two separate accidents on Hafizabad and Pasrur roads on Saturday.

Reports said a motorcycle-rickshaw was on its way to the city from Qazi Kot village. Near Ladheywala Warraich on Hafizabad Road, a truck hit the three-wheeler, killing Umair, his wife Farah and relative Bushra on the spot and injuring driver Imtiaz and Asif and infant Yasfa.

The second accident occurred on Pasrur Road near Basiwala village where a car hit a motorcycle which resulted into the instant death of Abdul Rehman, 15, his nephew Mubasher, 4, and niece Afshan, 2. Police have registered a case against the absconding driver.

DEMO: Residents of various localities in the city and suburbs demonstrated on Saturday to protest against gas shutdown and increase in prices of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The protesters, including women and children, of Dhulley, Model Town, Jinnah Road, Baghbanpura, People’s Colony, Farid Town and other localities blocked the roads and also burnt old tyres. They also shouted slogans against the SNGPL officials.

Dwellers of suburban areas of Rahwali, Ghakkhar Mandi, Alipur Chattha, Qila Dedar Singh, Naushera Virkan and Kamoki also staged demonstrations.

They said that LPG prices were increased Rs50 per kilo within a few days which was not justified.

Transporters and motorcycle-rickshaw drivers also protested against the increase in LPG prices and demanded action against the LPG mafia.

WARRANTS ISSUED: The sessions court issued on Saturday non-bailable arrest warrants against 17 policemen and ordered the registration of a case against an SHO for not appearing in court in connection with narcotics cases.

Additional sessions judge Abdul Qayyum had summoned Saddar SHO/Inspector Gulzar Ahmad, but he did not comply with orders.

The judge ordered the City Police Officer to register a case against the SHO. The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrants against 17 constables for not appearing in the court.

PENALIZED: Civil Lines SP Zeeshan Siddiqui penalized on Saturday around half-a-dozen policemen on charges of negligence and corruption and sent them to the Police Lines.

The SP also forfeited two years service of Thata Dad police chowki in-charge/sub-inspector Muhammad Ashraf and stopped his increment for showing poor performance.

He also forfeited two years service of another sub-inspector Muhammad Riaz and four ASIs Muhammad Saeed, Muhammad Ramzan, Muhammad Khalid and Muhammad Din for the same charges.

FOUNDATION STONE: Lahore High Court judge Justice Ijazul Ahsan laid the foundation stone of new courts in Wazirabad on Saturday.

The judge also visited Gujranwala and inaugurated a ceremony of lawyers’ chambers.
