ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired on Friday a special session on national security at the General Headquarters (GHQ) to discuss the future direction of Operation Zarb-i-Azb after the carnage at the Army Public School, Peshawar.

It was the first time the prime minister travelled to GHQ for a meeting with the generals on the issue of security. Similar sessions in the past were held at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.

There was no official word on the meeting either from the PM’s Office or the army’s public affairs wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations.

The prime minister and army chief had earlier met at least twice in Peshawar after the attack in which over 142 children and school staff were killed. But, this was the first meeting under a formal setting since the tragedy.

Though not much is known about the outcome of the GHQ meeting, a statement by Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif hinted about the discussions.

“We will continue to hit these terrorists wherever they are and operations will continue till we eliminate the last terrorist,” he said during his visit to troops, taking part in operation in Khyber Agency, later in the day.

The meeting further coincided with the start of political consultations on the national action plan for combating terrorism and beginning of execution of terrorism convicts.
