KARACHI: Trade and industry leaders have expressed concern over the current political situation and said the uncertain environment is impeding investment by foreign investors.
Instead of resolving issues including inflation, energy crisis, poverty, infrastructure development, energies are being wasted on non-issues and irrelevant matters, they said.
All Karachi Industrial Alliance and former chairman KATI, Mian Zahid Hussain said on Friday the political agitation dealt a blow to domestic economic activities.
There is an urgent need to take measures which could ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas to industries. The committee formed by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to sort out the electricity crisis should convene a meeting between power producers and stakeholders at the earliest, he stressed.
Though law and order in Karachi has improved, businessmen still lack confidence, he said.
The sit-ins and processions are the main reason for fear among investors. The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) president Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui said that decrease in exports during the last four months is alarming.
