Security officials stand alert after unidentified gunmen opened fire at vehicle which was carrying polio workers in Eastern Bypass area of Quetta on Wednesday, November 26, 2014.- PPI/file

QUETTA: Over 30 suspects were picked up on Thursday during a search operation conducted to arrest people involved in the killing of four polio workers in the city on Wednesday.

A police official said most suspects were taken into custody at Mohalla Khelabad, adding that arms and ammunition were also seized.

Police interrogated the driver of the health workers’ van who had escaped when the vehicle came under fire.

IGP Balochistan Mohammad Amlish Khan suspended the acting DSP of Shalkot, Shafqat Ameer Junjua, and the SHO of New Sariab police station, Noor Bakhsh, for showing negligence in performing their duty.
