KARACHI: “Modern man appears to be in a state of utter spiritual exhaustion,” said Mr G. Allana while addressing about one thousand students of the College of Home Economics yesterday. The subject of his talk was ‘Modern man at the cross-roads of history”. “The deathless Adam in him seems to have aged before his time,” he said. “He feels his path in the world of human insistence is shadowed by the dark clouds of scepticism and disbelief that linger and hover over his head. He is dejected and despondent for he has lost faith in himself, lost faith in the future, lost faith in religion, lost faith in God — in short, he has lost faith in every thing.”

Mr Allana said: “Humanity is enveloped by an unprecedented moral and spiritual crisis, and man finds himself standing at the cross-roads of history — uncertain of the present, apprehensive of the future.” He said: “Broadly speaking, his problems and difficulties are manifold; they are multi-dimensional. But for the purpose of this talk, I shall divide it into four main divisions:- A crisis as a result of technological advancement, a world conflict arising out of a clash of ideologies, imminent danger to world peace due to racial arrogance, and socio-economic discontent arising out of intra-national economic disparities.”
