LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) stayed on Tuesday the announcement of Punjab Bar Council’s election result on 22 seats of Lahore division (Lahore, Okara, Sheikhupura and Kasur) and sought appearance of the returning officer, the advocate general of Punjab, Hanif Khatana.
Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza passed the stay order on a petition by advocate Asif Sattar, a candidate for the election held on Saturday last.
The judge directed Mr Khatana to appear on Wednesday (today) with the election record.
The petitioner pleaded that the elections were held on November 22 to elect the house 75 members from all over the province. He said on the polling day when the polling agents of different candidates tried to cast their votes, they were not allowed.
He said the candidates approached the returning officer who declared them genuine voters but they were not allowed to cast their votes.
