ISLAMABAD: Police arrested a suspected terrorist from G-6 area on a tip on Monday and also recovered explosive material and implements.

Police said that on receiving information that he would be arriving at Masjid Shuhda in the area, they waited for him and also seized a bag which yielded two hand-grenades, seven detonators, eight batteries, a remote control, prime-code and explosives.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the suspect, hailing from South Waziristan, belonged to a group headed by Molvi Khalik, affliated with Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He had arrived in Islamabad a few days ago and was staying with a man in the suburbs of the city. Police would not name the suburbs because they hoped to hunt down other accomplices.

“The suspect described himself as a handler and facilitator and was on a mission to deliver the material to another person when he was caught,” said the police.

Another man is due to arrive in Islamabad from South Waziristan in the next two days to receive the explosives for “a mission”, the suspect was quoted as saying.

Police are in the dark about the mission but said the gang had conducted reconnaissance of some installations. They think the man coming to Islamabad might have the information about the target.
