LAHORE: Government departments have got 247 first information reports lodged against butchers and meat sellers for illegal slaughtering and selling unhygienic meat at the provincial metropolis and the adjoining districts of Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib.

Senior officials have sought a permission to continue crackdown on those playing with public health.

“There should be a zero tolerance over the sale of diseased or dead animals’ meat in any area of Punjab,” Livestock and Dairy Development Secretary Naseem Sadiq said in a meeting along with Lahore Commissioner Rashid Mahmood Langrial here on Friday.

“So it will be great if we extend collaborated efforts to punish the mafia patronising such an abominable business.”

The commissioner said he had told district coordination officers and district police officers of Lahore division to launch an effective drive against the butchers.

The commissioner said various squads were already checking several points of Lahore and other districts in order to stop transport of the unhygienic meat.

The Punjab Food Authority director general, and the district officer of Badami Bagh General Bus Stand were present.

APPOINTMENT: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) administration announced seven newly-appointed assistant directors (General Cadre) on Friday.

The six successful candidates are: Hamid Sajjad Sial, Ali Atta, Muhammad Abubakar Abdullah, Muhammad Atir Khan, Muddassir Ayaz Mahmood Chaudhry and Omar Abbas while Sadia Saleem has been selected on seats reserved for female candidates.

The administration also transferred Abdul Karim from senior estate officer in Directorate of Estate Management-II and posted him as deputy director in the Directorate of Estate Management-I.

Ammad Anwar Khokhar, assistant director for LDA City in Directorate of Estate Management-II, was transferred and posted as estate officer in thee Directorate of Estate Management-II.
