THIS is apropos Bina Shah’s article ‘Fed on ideology’ (Nov 9). We all are aware of the incident at the International Islamic University in Islamabad.
The IIUI administration’s decision against students who were representing Israel in the UN Model are not wrong.
Students representing Israel said: “We are not promoting Israel, but representing it.” Are these arguments logical? The writer also forgot to mention ‘Welcome to the land of peace and prosperity’, which was also part of their presentation.
The question is: how were they representing Israel? To tell the truth, they were representing it as a peaceful and prosperous country, which is not the case.

If their representation of israel was wrong, it is still wrong to stifle their freedom of expression. Uc berkely students are free to portray isis as they see fit, and many do.

Israel is the only true democracy in the Middle East. Whether we like it or not it is an independent nation and member of the UN.
It's about time we stopped towing the pro-Arab policy. What have the Arabs done for Pakistan other than treat our expats as second class people or to give handouts to our rulers. When was the last occasion Arab nations spoke and supported Pakistan on the global stage.
So the sooner we wake up the better it is for us. Let's embrace the 'other' which we deny or reject.

It is like a play. Actors represent character as well as possible. Or think of as lawyer representing Israel. Lawyer has to defend and present in best light a client even if lawyer is aware of guilt.Freedom of expression does not mean acceptance by others.
