QUETTA: Blast outside the residence of a Balochi folk singer injured his son and niece in Balochistan's troubled and resource-rich Dera Bugti district on Saturday.

A police official, on condition of anonymity, told Dawn.com that unknown miscreants had planted a landmine outside the residence of Sabz Ali Bugti, a well-known Balochi fold singer. He said Sabz Ali's son Abdul Majeed, 7, and his six-year-old niece Nabila were seriously wounded in the explosion.

“Kids hit the landmine and there was a huge explosion,” he said.

The injured children were rushed to nearby hospital for first aid. However, they were shifted to Rahim Yar Khan city of Punjab for further treatment. The blast also smashed windows of the residence.

Police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Dera Bugti is considered to be one of the most sensitive districts in Balochistan, plagued by violent attacks on the part of Baloch separatists and growing sectarianism.

Terror bid foiled

Separately, Frontier Corps (FC) foiled a major terror bid by seizing an explosive-laden motorcycle in Balochistan's Pat Feeder area.

Khan Wasey, the Spokesman for FC told Dawn.com that unknown miscreants had planted 19 kilogram of explosives in a motorcycle and parked it near the Pat Feeder canal.

He said the FC foiled the terror bid by timely defusing it in the light of intelligence reports. Wasey added that FC also recovered detonators and batteries from the motorcycle.
