KARAK: Elders and activists of social organisations here have demanded provision of drinking water from Lawagher Dam to Karak city, saying that water supplied to the city by the tehsil municipal administration is insufficient to meet the demand of residents.

They also formed a committee to meet elected representatives of the district to urge them for resolution of the water problem.

The elders of Karak Welfare Organisation, Anjuman Ahlyan-i-Behbood Karak and Save City Movement, including Lizat Shah, Shah Jehan and Imtiaz, told a joint meeting of the organisations here on Friday that Rs130 million had been spent on the Zebi Dam drinking water project for Karak city and millions of rupees were spent on other such projects, but the problem of water shortage still persisted.

They said that now residents of the city and its suburbs had been facing acute shortage of drinking water and they had to purchase it at Rs15 per gallon like other commodities daily.

Elders say TMA fails to fulfil need of the residents

The meeting was told that Chambi Barani dam had been constructed for providing drinking water to Karak city, but due to unavailability of funds the project could not be completed so far.

The elders said that small Kotal dam could be built in the nearby hills for water supply to the city. They said that the residents of the district headquarters deserved more civic facilities.

The meeting urged MNA Nasir Khan Khattak and MPA Gul Sahib Khan to take immediate steps for resolving the drinking water problem of Karak city from Lawagher Dam and also construct Kotal dam with the oil and gas royalty funds.

CHEMISTS’ DEMAND: The Chemist and Druggist Association of Karak district has demanded of the Pharmacy Council to hold exams of category ‘C’ and ‘B’ after every five years to regularly provide qualified persons to this vital field.

They demand was made during a meeting of the association held here on Friday with its district president Maulana Faizullah in the chair. They also decided to hold a meeting with the drug inspector every week to get firsthand information about new developments in the field.
