KARACHI: Having won three races on trot, favourite three-year-old bay filly First Night stretched her winning streak by capturing The Sanghar Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

Ridden by its regular rider Mohammad Essa, the 30 to 100 favourite filly galloped home by six lengths over another filly Loyal Lady to win the honours.

Mare National Queen finished third 10 lengths behind while colt Cash The Cheque completed the frame among six starters.

Fancied four-year-old bay filly Medusa also lived up to her credentials while landing The Golden Day Cup. Promoted to scale order II after last triumph, the 60 to 100 favourite filly, ably ridden by Ghulam Shabbir II, overcomes filly Dancing Queen by five lengths and a half.

Filly Amazing Star and dark bay hose Arkadian were placed third and fourth respectively. Rider of Arkadian, A Qayyum, was fined Rs1,000 for unsatisfactory riding on his mount.

The New Generation Cup ended in a blaze of glory for public fancy two-year-old roan filly Stylish as she edged filly Satisfy by distance in a closely fought race.

Be Cool and My Time followed the two in same order on board. Colt Boogey Man was withdrawn before the race leaving six horses in fray.

When the betting of the race commenced, debutant Fatehyaab was opened favourite and after punters have betted their money on it, the situation changed when connect ion backed Stylish. This led to hue and cry by public.

The triumph of Stylish helped owner, trainer and rider trio (Pir Pagara, Mohyuddin and Pervaiz Ali) to complete a double as the rider had piloted home colt second favourite Karobar to two lengths victory in an earlier race.

At the outset, publish fancy Bugash Bugash made amends while getting the better of Lucky Lyna by seven lengths to pick up spoils in the opener.

In the only upset, outsider four-year-old colt Ideal came from behind to upset the co-favourite pair of Simple Lady and Happy Lady to claim the sixth and concluding race. The eventual champion beat stable mate Happy Lady by two lengths to create a stir.

Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Nov 9.
