PAF Academy wins inter-base golf

LAHORE: Pakistan Air Force Academy Risalpur won the Inter-base Golf Championship at the Defence Raya Golf and Country Club Lahore. PAF Base Masroor received silver whereas PAC Kamra won bronze medal.

In the senior category for Air Officers’, Air Marshal Jamshed Khan and Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Ashfaq took away the first and second net prizes respectively, while first and second gross were picked up by Air Marshal Sohail Gul Khan and Air Vice Marshal Asad Lodhi.

In the individual category, Squadron Leader Jawad and Wing Commander Muhammad Shahid took away the first and second net prizes respectively, while first and second gross were picked up by Flight Lieutenant Adeel Hashmi and Squadron Leader Saifullah Goraya.—Sports Reporter

Last-gasp Mehmood helps KRL win

KARACHI: Midfielder Mehmood Khan’s late strike helped three-time defending champions Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) overcome Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) on Saturday.

After Zeeshan’s strike four minutes past the hour mark at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad to cancel out Murtuza Hussain’s 24th-minute opener for KRL, Mehmood pounced a minute from time to seal three points for KRL.

Victory took KRL to fourth place in the standings with 10 points after four matches, four points behind joint-leaders Pakistan Army and Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

Army beat National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) 2-1 on Saturday and lead the table on goal difference ahead of KPT with third-placed Pakistan Air Force (PAF) a point behind.—Sports Reporter

Nixor sides reach semis

KARACHI: Nixor Whites and Reds reached the semi-finals of the Fifth Culligan Girls Throwball Championship after winning their last-eight matches on Saturday.

Whites overcame City School PAF Chapter 2-1 while the Reds won 2-0 against Wales College.

Nixor Whites will face Agha Khan (Red) after they overwhelmed Dawood Public School 2-0 while Nixor Reds face Lyceum, 2-1 winners over Agha Khan (Yellow), in the other semi-final on Monday.

In the junior event, Habib Girls School play Haque Academy in the first semi-final and will face the winners of the other last-four match between Convent of Jesus and Mary and Mama Parsi School.—Agencies

Arif inaugurates coaching courses

LAHORE: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president retired Lt Gen Arif Hasan inaugurated coaching, training and refereeing courses in swimming, athletics and shooting, organised by the Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF), at Punjab Football Stadium.

PMPF president Riaz Fityana said a Czech Republican coach Michael Janca had arrived to conduct these courses.

Janca will impart training to as many as 25 male and female players.
