LAHORE: An additional district and sessions court judge directed on Thursday the Chuhng sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) to arrest and produce the Satto Katla station house officer (SHO) for illegally detaining two people.

Judge Ali Nawaz directed the SDPO to register a case against SHO Rai Nasir and submit a report in the court on the next hearing. The judge also ordered medico-legal examination of the people rescued from the detention.

On October 21, the judge deputed a bailiff on a petition by Arshad. The petitioner pleaded the Satto Katla SHO had detained Ali Muqdam and Fida Hussain. The bailiff in his report said the two people were found in the lock-up and that their arrest was not mentioned in the record.

He said Sub-Inspector Kamran stated the detainees were required in a dacoity case. However, the bailiff said, the FIR of the alleged dacoity was registered after the two were detained.

On Thursday, Sub-Inspector Subha Sadiq appeared before the judge and said former SHO Nasir had been suspended. However, the judge ordered the SDPO to produce the SHO handcuffed. The judge released both detainees on furnishing surety bonds.

KIDNAP CASE: A sessions court on Thursday sought an explanation from the Samanabad station house officer for not registering an alleged kidnap for ransom case of a stage actress’s son.

Sadia Masood Butt, aka Sana Butt, stated in her petition that police were reluctant to register a case against kidnapers of her son, Zunair Ali.

She claimed that she got her son recovered after giving ransom to kidnappers who were later identified as Shobi Meher and Adnan alias Dani.

She said an application for the registration of the case was submitted to the SHO concerned, but no action was taken on it.

The petitioner asked the court to direct the police to lodge an FIR against the suspects.

Additional district and sessions judge Arshad Hussain summoned the Samanabad SHO on Nov 11 to explain his position in the case.

INNOCENT: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday acquitted a murder suspect after the prosecution failed to establish his case.

The suspect, Rashid, was accused of killing Muhammad Ilyas on Dec 29, 2013. The suspect had filed an acquittal application pleading that the police had no direct evidence against him.

The judge ordered his acquittal after hearing the arguments.
