PESHAWAR: A police constable and a robber were killed while two robbers sustained injuries during an encounter with police here on Tuesday night.

A police official said that robbers hiding in bushes opened fire on the rider squad of the Pahari Pura police station during night patrol in Budhu Samarbagh area, killing a constable identified as Yassir, who was riding motorbike.

The official said that the other police constable retaliated and killed a robber identified as Naeem alias Naeemay of Chargo Kalay area. Two other robbers -- Riaz and Naseer -- sustained serious injuries, and were shifted them to Lady Reading Hospital.

The official said that the assassinated robber was wanted to police in various crimes.

Meanwhile, robbers looted Rs1 million at gunpoint from a trader in Sikandar Pura area on Tuesday morning.

Shafiqur Rehman told Hashnagri police that he was carrying Rs1 million to deposit in a bank that three robbers riding a bike snatched the cash from him at gunpoint.

Police registered FIR and began investigation into the incident.

It is worth mentioning here that a bomb blast had taken place in the same area a few days back, targeting a medical store owned by the trader. According to police extortionists were demanding money from him.
