LAHORE: As many as 112 trainees, including women, in different law-enforcement agencies graduated at a ceremony at Sheikhupura Training College of National Highways & Motorways Police (NH&MP) on Tuesday.

The graduates belonged to NH&MP, Federal Investigation Agency, Azad Kashmir police and Gilgit-Baltistan police, including traffic police, and attended the 21st Upper and Lower and 19th Intermediate courses at the training institute.

NH&MP Inspector General Zulfiqar Cheema, while addressing on the occasion, said motorway police were considered a role model institution for the country and would now become the “best highways police in the world”. “We shall not lose this pride and distinction the force has achieved in years,” Cheema said.

The IG said motorway police had ensured rule of law that should be enforced without any discrimination. Other government departments should also adopt the same standards, he added.

He further said the force would never let the writ of law to weaken in its jurisdiction. On the occasion, the IG congratulated the graduates and said he expected standards of traffic discipline to improve and highways become safe as soon as the trained officers started discharging their duties.

Earlier in his welcome address, Training College Commandant Deputy Inspector General Ahsan Sadiq said modern methods had been adopted in imparting training to raise standards.

Cheema along with other officers placed a wreath on the martyrs monument and offered prayers.
