MINGORA: A week-long workshop on effective teaching concluded here at the main Odigram campus of the University of Swat on Monday.

It was organised by varsity’s centre for management and commerce to impart latest techniques of teaching to faculty members of different departments of the university.

Ms Lala Rukh, coordinator of the workshop, delivered lecture on new techniques of teaching and their importance in improving quality of education.

Varsity vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Jahanzeb Khan and vice-chancellor of University of Malakand Professor Johar distributed certificates among the participants.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Jahanzeb said that the University of Swat had been taking steps since its establishment in 2010 to impart quality education to students. “Our mission is to prepare students according to market demand,” he added.

Mr Jahanzeb said that the university had 20 different departments, and was planning to establish more departments to fulfill the requirements of education in the region.

“The university is also holding extracurricular activities to tap students’ hidden potentials,” he said.

SCHOOL GAMES CONCLUDE: Inter-school sports events concluded here at Grassi ground on Monday, with hockey final played between teams of government high school, Amankot and government high school, Odigram.

The Amankot team won the match on penalty shootouts. Similarly, government high secondary school, Haji Baba won the basketball final defeating team of government high school, Totano.

Speaking on the occasion, Swat district education officer Zulfiqar ul Mulk said that peace had been restored to the district, where sports activities should be held on regular basis.

He said that it was an encouraging sign that youth were taking interest in sports’ activities. He said that hockey, which was the national game, should be promoted among youth.

SHOT DEAD: A girl and her brother were killed by their rivals in Panr Kawtaro Mayra area.

Police were informed that daughter of Muhabat Khan and her brother, Parmanat Khan of Panr, were fired upon while going on a rickshaw. The attackers managed to escape after the incident.
