ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) on Wednesday announced new hybrid varieties of canola and groundnut for cultivation in the Pothwar and Northern region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
With the names of ‘PARC Canola Hybrid’ and ‘Pothwar’ for groundnut, the new varieties were recommended by the variety evaluation committee on oilseed crops.
The new canola variety has yielding potential of 3,182kg per hectare, while the groundnut variety has yielding potential of 4,200kg per hectare.
In a meeting, the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) Director General Mohammad Azeem congratulated scientists for their innovative research work and added, “PARC is producing quality seeds of various crops for distribution to farmers to improve crop production for food security in the country.”
