MIRPURKHAS: At least two girl students fell unconscious as firing by some intruders spread considerable panic across the Mirpurkhas campus of the University of Sindh on Monday.

Academic activities on the campus had to be suspended due to the incident.

Yasir Khaskheli, Mohammad Bukhsh Shah, Rab Dino Khaskheli and some other students said that they saw two cars carrying six armed men enter the campus. They said one of the intruders, seemed to be outsiders, started firing into the air and hurling threats at campus guards and everyone coming across them.

They then forced the closure of the canteen and took a round of the campus while firing intermittently into the air, the students said, adding that after causing considerable panic and harassment, they drove away.

Although no one on the campus appeared ready to identify the intruders or speak about their motive for firing, some students hinted that the incident was related to a dispute between two students that had been settled through talks recently.

Students and teachers, as well as employees on the campus, raised the issue of their security with the pro-vice chancellor following the incident.

It was noted that the guards posted at the gates were unarmed and they could do nothing when the intruders entered the campus and left it without being checked.
