ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday and discussed with him the situation in Karachi after Rangers raided an MQM office in the city late on Wednesday and picked up several activists.

The minister said that Rangers had been asked to investigate the matter in a transparent manner and ensure that innocent people were not kept under detention.

Meanwhile, Director General Rangers Sindh Maj Gen Bilal Akbar called on the interior minister and discussed with him the security situation in the province.

Earlier, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad contacted the interior minister and the DG Rangers to convey his concern over the raid. The matter also came under discussion during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior. The issue was raised by Tahir Hussain Mashhadi of the MQM.

The committee decided to summon the DG Rangers at its next meeting to be convened to review the security situation in Karachi.
