PESHAWAR: District Leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Mualana Sher Alam Farooqi was gunned down in Tor Gundai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Hangu district on Sunday.

JUI-F Information Secretary Jalil Jan told Dawn.com that armed men opened fire on Mr Farooqi outside his residence. He died on the spot. Rescue teams rushed to the site of the incident and shifted the body to a local hospital for an autopsy.

The 55-year-old Farooqi graduated from Haqqania Madrassa and was the Deputy Emir of Thall Tehsil of Hangu district.

Mauala Sher Alam Faroqi was a close associate and class fellow of Mulana Gul Naseeb Khan.

'PTI government responsible'

The JUI-F has held the PTI government responsible for the death of their leader.

The provincial president of the JUI-F Mulana Gul Naseeb Khan in a statement said that the K-P government has failed to protect its citizens.

JI General Secretary Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulk said the provincial government is not serious in controlling the law and order situation. He said target killings and kidnapping for ransom continue unabated.
