Traffic discipline

OBEYING traffic rules reflect the discipline of a country. Unfortunately we as a nation often lack this.

It is most unfortunate that among so many TV channels, not one has initiated this project to educate the mostly illiterate drivers, who are either unaware of traffic signs and rules or violate it with impunity. Among a few glaring violations, the following are most common:

Blinking of lights is commonly used without knowing its interpretation.

Overtaking from the left is often the cause of an accident.

Unnecessary blaring of horns also confuses drivers.

Timing of indicators’ use is either not understood or sparingly used.

Lane violations are common due to ignorance.

Traffic lights at intersections are not clearly visible generally due to poor or no maintenance.

These violations must be punished without discrimination; VIP or no VIP.

Dilapidated road conditions, wherever required, need timely attention

The NH & MP are advised to promote mass education of traffic rules in close collaboration with all TV channels and the NH & MP-approved driving schools at least once a week.

These measures should ultimately reflect in the overall national character-building and discipline.
