KARACHI: A protest demonstration against an ‘anti-Sindh statement’ of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders was held in Clifton on Saturday.

A number of people, including women, gathered at Teen Talwar to protest against PTI’s Nadir Akmal Leghari and Arif Alvi who had opposed creation of new administrative units in Sindh, but favoured the same for the remaining three provinces.

The demonstration was organised by the Defence-Clifton Residents Committee (DCRC), the Council for Professionals — the two organisations associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Representing the DCRC, former MQM MNA Khushbakht Shujaat said on the occasion that it was not a sit-in or a political rally, as it was “a token protest by civil society” to condemn the hypocritical and anti-Sindh statement of the PTI leaders.

She said the PTI leaders opposed the demand of new administrative units in Sindh in contrast to their party manifesto.

“We are not talking about [creating] provinces on ethnic lines...We are demanding new administrative units not only in Sindh but in Pakistan,” she said, adding that administrative units were created in the world to strike a balance between resources and problems.

She said the country would progress if new administrative units were created.

The protesters dispersed peacefully.

Strict security arrangements were made at the Teen Talwar area.
