ISLAMABAD: A two-day conference of the National Accountability Bureau’s directors general concluded here on Friday with a pledge to eliminate corruption and nab corrupt people irrespective of their status, affiliation and influence.

The conference chaired by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry approved the NAB Operational Methodology-2014 aimed at investigation and prosecution of corruption cases on fast-track basis.

“We want disposal of all cases without any delay,” the NAB chief said at the conference.

The conference was informed that separate standard operating procedures (SOPs) would be prepared for various functions of the bureau after consultation with all NAB divisions to fill knowledge gaps, bring uniformity and standardisation in work across the country and ensure discipline and better planning and management.

The bureau’s spokesman Hafiz Mohammad Irfan told Dawn that every scam would be investigated through combined investigation teams (CITs) of different wings of NAB to eliminate chances of favouritism by any investigator.

The chairman said that a handbook comprising the new operational methodology must be available to all NAB employees. He asked the participants to expedite work on all ongoing cases, especially those related to the general public, to provide relief to the poor.

The conference took stock of the work ethics and ethos and identified measures to improve the efficiency of the bureau.

It reiterated that all corrupt people would be nabbed irrespective of their status and influence. It decided to rename the training and evaluation division as training and research division and to vigorously pursue work of the preventive committees at the headquarters and regional levels.

The conference approved a proposal to start an awareness campaign by setting up character building societies at schools, colleges and universities and placing billboards inscribed with anti-corruption slogans at important places.

A decision was also made to simplify the procedure to file a complaint with NAB.
