HYDERABAD: A train’s driver and second driver were injured when the Karachi-bound Shalimar Express smashed into a truck at the Narejani railway crossing near Detha on Tuesday night.
Railway officials from Karachi and Rahuki police confirmed that a truck had reached the track somehow when the train was about to cross the area. According to the SHO of the Rahuki police station, Shaukat Mangrio, the truck developed some fault and its driver could not cross the point. In the meantime the train arrived and hit the truck.
Train driver Zakir and second driver Luqman were injured. The train engine was also badly damaged. The incident took place at around 10:45pm and the train was leaving for the Hyderabad railway station at around 1am. It was scheduled to reach Karachi early in the morning.
SHO Mangrio quoting railway crossing staff said the truck driver and cleaner had escaped. The truck carrying gravel was going to Mirpurkhas from Hyderabad, added the SHO.
