KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was left in a limbo on Wednesday when the state-owned Pakistan Television, in a blatant violation of its agreement to telecast all Haier T20 Cup matches live, suddenly switched to relaying the Champions League Twenty20 matches in India.
Sources close to PCB told Dawn that PTV’s last-minute somersault had irked the Board officials beyond words since they had worked out a solid agreement with the channel for a comprehensive coverage of T20 Cup a few weeks back.
PTV’s sudden change of heart on Wednesday to televise the Champions League matches defied logic as it was not in the support of Pakistan’s own Lahore Lions but for the other Indian franchised outfits featuring on the day.
When contacted, a PCB official speaking on condition of anonymity, said the ridiculous act of PTV had not only embarrassed the Board but the title sponsors of the T20 Cup as well besides infuriating millions of cricket fans across the country who are keenly following the games.
