LAHORE: The city police chief on Monday ordered to detach the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) wing from the Crimes Record Office-SP and give it under the administrative command of Mujahid and Mobiles SP office in an attempt to improve its working.

The decision taken in a joint meeting of both offices chaired by Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains at his office was aimed at re-organisation of AVLS to stop the increasing incidence of car and motorcycle theft.

According to a handout, the CCPO stopped officials of both wings from setting up pickets outside Lahore city till further orders and directed them to focus on recovering snatched or lifted vehicles rather tracing vehicles got on lease.

During the meeting, Wains also ordered to set up a regular AVLS picket on Multan Road at Chuhng, saying the AVLS staff would not set up picket without laptop.

He said the Mujahid SP would be allocated an office at the DIG Investigation office and that the AVLS would have three sectors each headed by a DSP rank officer.

He said three sectors would get proper lock-ups and interrogation centres to interrogate suspects, adding officials of Mujahid and Excise & Taxation would also be present along with AVLS officials at all city pickets to check snatched and stolen vehicles and motorcycles.

He said a comprehensive strategy would be devised with the help of forensic and excise directors to dispose of tempered, cut and weld vehicles.

The CCPO ordered Mujahid Squad, AVLS and the City Traffic Police to initiate in association with the E&T department a mass awareness campaign about safety measures of vehicles and motorcycles.

DELEGATION: A two-member delegation of the British High Commission comprising IAM Bracewell Capri and Douglas Mc-Acnna met Inspector General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera at the Central Police Office on Monday.

The delegates had a discussion about the working pattern of police of the two countries.

They offered cooperation to enhance capacity building of the Punjab police in counter terrorism, investigation and training areas.

Later, the IG presented souvenirs to the visiting delegates.
