BAHAWALPUR: The body of a six-year-old boy, who went missing on Sunday, was found in a street in Model Town B.

Reports said some passersby informed police about the body who shifted it to the mortuary of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH).

Kotwali police said the deceased, identified as Noor Muhammad, was the son of Ehsan of Mohallah Kajalpur.

They said the boy had gone for tuition but did not return till evening. They said a murder case was registered against unidentified persons on the report of the deceased’s father.

Police said there were torture scars around boy’s neck and it appeared that he might have been strangled with a rope.

However, police said the cause of death could be ascertained after the post-mortem report.

AWARDED: The slain journalist and Miranshah Press Club president, Malik Mumtaz Khan, was posthumously given the Press Freedom Award 2014 at a ceremony held at Ahmedpur East here on Monday.

The award was conferred on late Mumtaz Khan by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAB-IRFA) of Germany through Rural Media Network, Pakistan’s Ehsan Ahmed Sahar.

Among 33 nominees, the jury selected deceased Mumtaz Khan for the award.

Mumtaz Khan was killed by militants on Feb 27, 2013, when he was returning home.

The award was received by deceased’s son Malik Muhammad Salman Khan from Bahawalpur Union of Journalists President Majeed Gill.

Salman traveled from NWZ to receive the award which carried a cash prize of Rs60,000 and a shield.

Former MNA Arif Aziz Sheikh and others demanded of the government to arrest the killers and pay Rs1 million to his heirs which were announced by former president Asif Ali Zardari.

MEDICAL TEAM: A medical team of Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB), led by senior medical officer Dr Muhammad Usman Cheema, on Monday visited the flood-hit areas in Bahawalpur and Muzaffargarh and provided medical treatment to flood victims.
