SIALKOT: The Government College Women University has finally got its own vice-chancellor two years after its establishment.

The provincial government has appointed Dr Farhat Saleemi as the vice-chancellor who has assumed the charge of her office.

The newly-appointed vice-chancellor pledged to make all-out efforts for making the university among the top ranking institutions of the province.

The Punjab government had upgraded the college to university in 2012 with the efforts of Khawaja Muhammad Asif, now the Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power.

UoG Vice-Chancellor Dr Nizamuddin had been holding the additional charge as VC of the Government College Women University, Sialkot, since its establishment.

Senior teacher Prof Dr Khalida Gillani said she hoped that MA classes in all subjects would be restored in the university for the convenience of hundreds of local girls wishing to get higher education. The MA classes had been suspended at the university by the Higher Education Department (HEC) during the academic session 2014.

The teachers, students and their parents, who had termed the suspension of MA classes unwise, have also demanded of the newly-appointed vice-chancellor to restore the classes without any delay.
