SWABI: The Awami National Party leaders here have demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to investigate what they called the election fraud in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

District general secretary Mohammad Islam, acting president Shehryar Khan and PK-33 candidate Mohammad Ishfaq said in the party meeting on Sunday that general elections were not only rigged in Punjab, but various irregularities had also occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mr Islam said that his party’s defeat in Swabi and other areas was the result of rigged elections. He claimed that ANP leadership had then accepted the election results for the sake of democracy in the country.

Mr Shehryar said that his was a democratic party, but some people were bent on harming democracy. Mr Ishfaq claimed that they did not know why they lost the elections. “No doubt, something somewhere had gone wrong,” he said.

The ANP activists said that there was a consensus among the party leaders that irregularities had occurred in the elections and the ECP should investigate them. However, they did elaborate how the rigging had occurred and who were involved in it.

HEALTH WORKERS: Lady health workers and lady health supervisors vowed here on Sunday that they would continue their protest till regularisation of their services by the government.

They warned that they would not resume their duty and the government would be responsible for the sufferings of people and any break in anti-polio campaign in the district.

The health department workers told mediapersons that 700 LHWs and 30 supervisors were boycotting their offices for the last 14 days, saying that their protest would continue till acceptance of their sole demand.

“We will not participate in the coming anti-polio campaign and the national health programme till issuance of the notification of regularisation of our services,” said one of their leaders.
