Marib, Ibrahim advance

KARACHI: Marib Malik recorded a brisk straight sets win against Abdul Haseeb to advance into the second round of U-18 boys singles event in the 11th Pizza Hut Open National Tennis Championship which began here at Karachi Gymkhana on Tuesday.

Marib blanked Haseeb 6-0, 6-0 to secure a place in the second round. In other matches Nauman Aftab defeated Aqeel Shabbir 7-6, 2-6, 10-6 and Hassan Farooq thrashed Mustafa Nasir 6-3, 6-1. Ibrahim Iltifat recovered from a set down to overpower Bilal Imran 5-7, 6-7, 10-7.

In the U-16 first round, Sahibzada Mohammad Ali trounced Amin Shafi 6-1, 6-1 while Babar Kamal downed Nosher Mashi 6-0, 6-7, 10-3.

In the U-14 matches, Mohammad Hamza beat Agha Saleh 6-2, 6-1 while Noor-e-Mustafa defeated Umar Shaffi 7-5, 7-5. In the second round of the U-12 singles event, Ghufran Faiz defeated Masood Kaboora 8-3 while Jahanzaib thrashed Kirtan Mukesh 8-2.
