LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association’s former president Asma Jahangir on Monday said if army took over the government in the country the military rule would be minimum ten-year long.

She urged political leaders to remove the prevailing chaos on their own in order to block the way of any unconstitutional move in the country.

Talking to media persons at Lahore High Court, she said political leadership should not pave way for the military rule.

Ms Jahangir said it had been exposed that on whose behest PTI and PAT staged their dharnas. She said letting the protesters take over the government buildings was alarming.

To a query about army’s role as arbitrator, Ms Jahangir said the Constitution had no room for such role.

“If the Constitution is trampled, a conscientious judge should resign”, she added.
