SHEIKHUPURA: A Mushaira was held under the auspices of the Union of Writers Pakistan here.

Poet Majid Amir was the chief guest in the event.

In his welcome address, Fazal Mahmood, chairman Union of Writers Pakistan, said poets were valued assets to any society because they contributed to promotion of their language and literature. He said the government should encourage the organizations working for promotion of literature.

Dr Mahmood Raza said Urdu had unusual capability of being learnt and it was getting popular rapidly throughout the world, including Europe.
