KARACHI: Faisalabad Wolves and Rawalpindi Rams were on top after enforcing follow-on on their respective opponents on the second day of the three-day PCB Inter-Region Under-19 Cricket Tournament’s first-round matches on Monday.

The Wolves had Abbottabad Falcons on the run in their Pool ‘B’ fixture at the Sports Stadium in Sargodha. Replying to the hosts’ first-innings tally of 344-7, the Falcons were bowled out for 157 in 67.2 overs with Shahabul Khan taking 4-55.

Following on, the visitors reached 4-1 in their second innings.

Karachi Zebras are facing an uphill battle to avoid defeat after getting all out for 169 in reply to the Rams’ 338-7 in the Pool ‘C’ tie at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Awais Iqbal took 4-25.

Forced to bat again, the Zebras safely negotiated five overs to score 7-0.

Pakistan Under19 player Saud Shakeel slammed an unbeaten 150 (245 balls, 16 boundaries) to help Karachi Dolphins recover from 120-4 to post 264-7 in reply to Larkana Bulls’ 212 in the Pool ‘A’ match here at the NBP Sports Complex.

Akbar Babar (39) helped the talented left-hander Saud add 99 for the fifth wicket, while opener Hassan Mohsin scored 36.

The Bulls then collected 72-1 in their second innings to have a lead of 20 runs going into Tuesday’s last day.

Dera Murad Jamali Ibexes earned an unexpected 20-run lead on the first innings after restricting Hyderabad Hawks to 166 all out at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad. Aftab Ahmed grabbed five wickets for 56 runs.

The Ibexes then closed at 156-6 — with Dawood Khan (59) completing his second half century of the game — to enjoy an overall advantage of 176 runs.

Play was curtailed to just 37 overs in the Pool ‘B’ fixture at the Diamond Club in Islamabad where Islamabad Leopards moved from the overnight 92-4 to 183-7 in their reply to Fata Cheetahs’ 207. But Sajawal Riaz had enough time to reach an undefeated 100 (172 balls, five fours).

Rain wiped out the entire second day of both Pool ‘D’ matches. Peshawar Panthers were to due to resume at 123-9 against the NCA Colts at the LCCA Ground in Lahore, while Lahore Eagles didn’t get a chance to add to their overnight total of 124-5 in response to Sialkot Stallions’ 226 at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
