LAHORE: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on Friday clarified a news item ‘IPPs collapsing under circular debt burden’ appeared in Dawn on August 29, 2014 and reported that Wapda and NTDC owed over Rs230 billion to the IPPs against the overdue electricity invoices.
Wapda spokesman said the issue of payment to the IPPs does not pertain to Wapda for after introduction of power reforms and division of its power wing in 2007, the authority only deals with construction of dams and hydropower projects and their maintenance.
“All matters relating to electricity including payment to the IPPs come under the domain of power generation, transmission and dispatch and distribution companies which are functioning independently. Wapda has nothing to do with these companies,” the spokesman concluded.
