LAHORE: Establishment of a university of engineering and information technology at Rahim Yar Khan and a medical college at Bahawalnagar were among the six development schemes approved by the Punjab government on Wednesday with an estimated cost of Rs6,826.246 million (Rs6.83 billion).

Presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Irfan Elahi, the eighth meeting of Provincial Development Working Party of 2014-15 fiscal year approved establishment of Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology at Rahim Yar Khan (Phase-I) at the cost of Rs3,509.421 million and establishment of Medical College at Bahawalnagar at the cost of Rs1,742.678 million.

The other schemes approved included feasibility study on hill torrents and flood mitigation in Mianwali district (PC-II) at the cost of Rs39.410 million; feasibility study for Jand Dam in Attock district (PC-II) at the cost of Rs51.491 million; remodeling and extension of Tayyab Drain at Rajanpur district at the cost of Rs1,446.498 million and optimising of canal and groundwater management to assist Water User Associations in maximising crop production and managing salinisation with Australian assistance (revised) at the cost of Rs84.120 million.
