KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen early on Wednesday in Karachi's Korangi No 5 area.

The deceased, identified as a sub-inspector, was on his way for duty to the Chief Minister House.

The dead policeman could not be identified earlier as the attackers took away his belt and name plate.

After the incident, police reached the crime scene and started an investigation.

The body was shifted to a police station from where it will be taken later to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The tally of policemen killed in this year has reached 125.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.
