Yash Raj Films' Rani Mukerji-starrer Mardaani, will not be screened in Pakistani cinemas, reported Times of India

After facing multiple censorship issues raised by the Pakistan Film Censor Board, the producers decided not to screen the film in the country altogether.

According to the report, the film - which focuses on child trafficking and prostitution - was heavily slashed, losing many important scenes. It was also given an 'A' (Adult) certificate by the Pakistan Film Censor Board.

The film depicts Mukerji in the role of a tough police officer who faces a dangerous challenge when she takes on a case connected to the human trafficking of a young girl.

According to the creative team, the true essence of the film was ultimately lost after the changes made by the censor board, hence the team decided not to compromise the film and skip releasing Mardaani in Pakistan.

A spokesperson for the film said the changes were leading to the message of the film being distorted.

The film released in India on Friday with an ‘Adult’ certification, limiting its audience.
