PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has lauded the sacrifices rendered by tribal people because of the military operation going on in their areas for elimination of terrorism and said that everything possible will be done for their dignified return to home.
The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan here on Friday. Problems being faced by the internally displaced people came up for discussion during the meeting.
Sardar Mehtab apprised Mr Sharif about facilities being provided to the IDP families. He briefed the prime minister also on Operation Zarb-i-Azb under way in North Waziristan Agency.
The premier directed the governor to provide maximum facilities to the displaced families. He said that rehabilitation of displaced people was among priorities of the government and that they would not be left alone in the hour of need.
The prime minister was scheduled to attend a briefing on the Lowari Tunnel project in Chitral. However, his helicopter could not fly to Chitral because of bad weather and had to land in Peshawar. The briefing was held in the Governor’s House.
The prime minister expressed displeasure over delay in the completion of the tunnel project and directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to complete it in three years. He held out an assurance that funds would be released for the early completion of the project.
He said non-completion of the project even after the lapse of nine years was deplorable, adding that the delay had also contributed to cost escalation.
