Djokovic, Serena top seeds

NEW YORK: Two-time defending champion Serena Williams and top-ranked Novak Djokovic were named the top seeds on Wednesday for the US Open, the year’s final Grand Slam tennis showdown that starts here on the Flushing Meadows hardcourts on Monday.

Romania’s Simona Halep, runner-up at this year’s French Open, was made the second seed followed by Czech Petra Kvitova.
