TOBA TEK SINGH: Three minor children died while their elder brother and mother critically injured in a massive explosion in the house of a fireworks maker at Kamalia on Wednesday.

According to Kamalia Saddar police, firecrackers were being manufactured in the house of Arshad Chohan at Chak 739-GB when the explosion took place.

As a result, the rooms of the house collapsed and four brothers and their mother got trapped under the debris which also caught fire.


Their mother, elder brother critical


Fire fighters of Rescue 1122 and the tehsil municipal administration (TMA) employees were called who extinguished the fire and recovered the bodies of seven-year-old Asad, four-year-old Husnain and three-year-old Arooj Fatima from the debris.

Their mother Kalshoom Bibi and elder brother Yasir Ali who were seriously injured in the incident were shifted to Kamalia tehsil headquarters hospital. Later, both were shifted to Toba DHQ Hospital for treatment.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Usman told reporters that Chohan had the licence for manufacturing fireworks. He said the incident seemed to have occurred because of carelessness.

EROSION: Kamalia Assistant Commissioner Syeda Rama Ali ordered the irrigation department to build a spur to check land erosion by the River Ravi in the tehsil on Wednesday.

The AC gave the direction during a visit to the river bank, along with other officials concerned.
