KARACHI: A young Pakistani scientist, Dr Saima Rasheed of the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Karachi University, attended the 64th Nobel Laureate Meeting of Physiology and Medicine, held in Germany recently.

An official of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University, said on Sunday that Dr Saima Rasheed was one of the 600 selected young researchers from up to 80 countries of the world to meet and spend time with 37 Nobel laureates.

“The Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting invited her as young scientist from Pakistan to deliver and share with them her research (poster presentation). This was an excellent opportunity for the young scientist to communicate with fellow scientists across the globe and to share scientific thoughts with them,” he said.

She has done her PhD in bio-organic chemistry in 2013 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director ICCBS, University of Karachi, he said.

“During her studies she has discovered more than 200 natural and synthetic compounds that would serve as lead against diabetes. Her 20 publications have been published in international peer review journals”.

The Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser, former Chairman Higher Education Commission, Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, and Director ICCBS-KU, Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary, have congratulated Dr Saima Rasheed for her achievement and said that this selection at international forum was an honour not only for University of Karachi but also for the country.
