RAWALPINDI: Owing to uncertainty ahead of Imran Khan’s long march, the Punjab education secretary postponed his meeting with teachers of Rawalpindi district scheduled on Monday.

On the direction of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench, Secretary Education (School) Jabbar Shaheen had invited a delegation of teachers for a meeting on August 11 to hear their views on the relocation policy.

“The secretary through the EDO conveyed to us that the meeting has been cancelled and a new date will be announced later on,” said Raja Shahid Mubarik, Punjab Teachers Union, Rawalpindi, president.

Last month the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench had temporarily suspended orders passed by the education department for transferring schoolteachers under the policy.

After suspending the policy, the court had directed the secretary school to look into the matter and hold meeting with teachers to hear their grievances. In the court, the teachers had contended that under the relocation policy, the education department had transferred over 500 teachers to far-flung areas.
