Attack on Ahmadis

Published August 2, 2014

THIS is apropos your editorial ‘Attack on Ahmadis’ (July 29). Brutal and inhuman incidents against the Ahmadis are continuously on the rise and are taking place under the nose of the government, which is supposed to provide full protection to its citizens. The perpetrators are committing massacres of Pakistani citizens while the government and the authorities concerned act as silent spectators.

Yet again, the police kept watching while the victims’ houses were burnt by a mob and innocent children and women died inside. No one from the government condemned this barbaric act, no action has been ordered against responsible policemen and no arrests have been made yet. Such inaction in the past has further emboldened the perpetrators.

The silence from the people at the helm of affairs is appalling. Why are the government and judiciary silent? Why has no notice of this inhuman and barbaric incident been taken?

The official behaviour serves as a tacit approval for the hatemongers to continue killing with impunity.
